Language and Verse (Key Stage 3-5)
Objectives
- To introduce students to Iambic Pentameter and Shakespearian language
- To explore the structure of the verse (Iambic patterns, line endings, irregular beats)
- To give the students confidence in speaking verse
To include:
- Games to get the group alive to the room and playing together
- Practical exploration of a Shakespeare scene using verse and rhythm exercises
- Discussion of the 'rules' of verse and how we apply these rules as actors
- Opportunity to rehearse the scene in groups and perform if desired
- Debate about the 'conventional' way of approaching a scene vs. the alternative way we have discovered in the session
Approaching Scenes (Key Stage 3-5)
Objectives
- To introduce an approach to rehearsing scenes that students can take away and apply independently
- To give students confidence in performing and speaking text
- To allow students to be creative and play
To include:
- Games to get the group alive to the room and playing together
- Exercises to allow them to start to identify what energy they are naturally bringing into a room
- Exploration of alternative rehearsal tools, such as Statuses and Secrets
- Opportunity to rehearse the scene in groups and perform if desired
- Discussion of how they can take work from this session onwards to apply themselves

Objectives
- To introduce Iambic Pentameter and Shakespearian language
- To explore the rhythms of verse
- To allow the class to be creative and play
To include:
- Games to get the class focused
- Rhythm games to explore Iambic Pentameter
- Exercises to introduce unfamiliar Shakespearian words and language
- Games to play with different ways of speaking small sections of text
