BAZ Education

BAZ Education

BAZ provides bespoke workshops to schools, colleges and universities across London. Workshop packages are available alongside productions, while bespoke workshops are available all year round.

Interaction is essential and students are actively involved from the first moment, working collaboratively and collectively with their peer group in an open and supported environment, through the techniques of play and physical games.

Workshops are tailored to the exact requirements of the group and BAZ can incorporate an extensive range of practitioners and text into the session to support the requirements of both the Edexcel and AQA syllabuses. Essential to the process, evaluation is embedded within workshops to ensure students are actively engaged and can draw links to their own work, inspiring future development.

Alongside our workshops designed to support our productions, BAZ Ed offers a comprehensive package of education workshops aimed at students across keys stage 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Each workshop is delivered by professional theatre practitioners from BAZ and are scheduled to fit flexibly with your timetable and class. Listed below are our current education workshops, however if you would prefer, BAZ is more than happy to create a bespoke workshop tailored to the needs of your group.

Example workshops:

Devising Masterclass (KS3-5) This thrilling masterclass workshop is a chance for students to watch our professional actors and directors at work. Observe a rehearsal of the processes that go into devising a BAZ show, including using impro to develop text and making site-responsive work. The session includes a Q&A.

Devising Workshop (adaptable for all levels from Yr 10 – 13, and can be used to support the Edexcel A2 Unit 3 "Exploration of Dramatic Performance"). In these workshops, a BAZ facilitator will work with students and teachers to share our methods of creating theatre projects from scratch, enabling students to develop their own pieces of work. You will focus on:

  • How to find and use stimulus materials
  • Research productively
  • Develop the aims and intentions of a piece
  • Identify the target audience
  • Make creative decisions including
    • Improvising characters
    • Structuring a piece

Approaching Scenes (KS2-5) This workshop aims to introduce an approach to rehearsing scenes that students can take away and apply independently. It will give students confidence in performing and speaking text and allow them to play and be creative.

Language and verse (KS2-5) Mastering verse and the musicality of language is important to BAZ as a key to textual analysis, accessing verse in an engaging and practical way and introducing innovative ideas for storytelling.

Teacher INSET We are also pleased to offer a number of Teacher INSET days to support your CPD. These days will be part discussion, part interactive workshops – and can cover a variety of topics (for example preparing teachers to take on the challenge of leading devised projects in the classroom, as well as supporting the Edexcel syllabus). Contact us to discuss our plans for our next Teacher INSET day and the topics planned.

Bespoke Workshops Get in touch with us to design your own bespoke workshop tailored to the individual needs of your school or college group.
